Junior Fellow Column
ACOG Florida Section Junior Fellow Column => Spring 2006Shelley Holmstrom, MD Medical Student Initiative The John Gibbons Award was founded in 2005 to provide medical students an opportunity to travel to an ACOG meeting. The Florida section junior fellow officers held a contest to choose two medical students to represent the section at the Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) in Washington, DC to be held from May 610, 2006. The two recipients are Janelle Fauci, a third year medical student from the University of South Florida in Tampa and Manny Herrera, a fourth year medical student from Florida State University in Tallahassee. These two students have been awarded a stipend to cover travel expenses to the ACM. A special medical student course is being offered at the ACM this year, titled OB-GYN as a Career: Residency Training and Dimensions of Practice. This course is on Monday, May 8, 2006 from 15 pm at the Renaissance Washington Hotel. A medical student reception is being held on Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Renaissance Washington Hotel, 999 9th St NW from 5:306:45 pm. All junior fellows attending the ACM are encouraged to drop by this reception and meet the interested medical students. Annual Clinical Meeting in Washington, DC Junior fellow activities abound at the ACM! Junior fellows attending the Annual Clinical Meeting in Washington, DC have several programs designed specifically for them. The Business of Medicine Symposium is a new program this year at lunchtime on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to address the needs of physicians joining the work force after residency. These programs require registration and are $15 for all three sessions. Check the final ACM program for location of the following meetings.
Florida Section Wyeth Resident Reporter Program The Florida section of ACOG was one of six sections in District IV selected to send a resident to the Annual Clinical Meeting Wyeth Resident Reporter program. Brandon Locklear, MD, a second year resident at the Orlando Regional Medical Center program in Orlando, FL has been selected to represent the Florida section at the ACM as the Wyeth Resident Reporter. An outstanding educational program has been planned for the resident reporters. The reporters will also have the opportunity to learn a tremendous amount about ACOG. District IV Resident Research Winner to be honored at ACM Junior Fellow Shannon D. MacLaughlan, MD, from Greenville, SC is one of two recipients of the annual Donald F. Richardson Research award. She will present her original research paper titled, CYR 61 Expression in Normal and Abnormal Endometrium: A Marker of Estrogenic Activity during the Annual Clinical Meeting in May. |
