ACOG Florida Section Junior Fellow News =>Summmer 2008Shelley Holmstrom, MD ACOG District IV Annual District Meeting The District IV Annual District Meeting (ADM) is in our backyard this fall. The Orlando Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes will host the ADM September 5 to 7. Many junior fellow and medical student activities are planned. Oral and poster presentation of junior fellow original research will be conducted during the meeting, with cash awards given to first, second and third place in both categories. The deadline for oral and poster presentations is July 9. Online submissions can be made at www.acog.org. A junior fellow business meeting will take place on Friday, September 5, which is a great opportunity to find out what junior fellow activities are occurring at ACOG. A hands–on medical student course is slated for Saturday afternoon. Medical students can practice suturing, IUD placement and vaginal deliveries. This workshop will be followed by a medical student and junior fellow social hour on Saturday afternoon. Dr. Roger Toffle, MD, gynecologic oncologist of West Virginia University is the Donald F. Richardson/ Outstanding Faculty award winner. He will give a presentation during the ADM, entitled "Read and React, the Hockey Coach as Resident Educator Model." Elections Two sets of elections will take place this summer. The Florida section of ACOG needs a new junior fellow vice chair. Look for a call for nominations and voting for this important position. The junior fellow vice chair attends District IV advisory council meetings and assists the junior fellow section chair. The vice chair automatically becomes the section chair the following year.District IV will elect a new junior fellow district vice chair and secretary-treasurer. Voting for these two offices is conducted via the internet. Look for announcements in the ACOG Newsletter and via e-mail. Medical Student News Two medical students from the University of Miami were sponsored to attend the ACOG Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) in New Orleans through the John Gibbons medical student award. More medical students from Florida will be sponsored for the ADM in Orlando this fall. Look for announcements for this award and encourage your medical students to apply for this opportunity.
